What we fix

Siding Repair in Houston After Wind and Rain

Wind does most of the damage we see. During the May 2024 derecho, the National Weather Service estimated winds near 100 mph in parts of downtown Houston, and Hurricane Beryl came ashore as a Category 1 storm that July. Gusts like that unlock panels, crack brittle courses and push rain behind trim.

A loose panel is the easy part. What matters is whether water got behind it, so we open the wall far enough to check the wrap and sheathing before closing it back up.

When the damage is spread across the whole house, patching stops paying off. Our Houston siding page covers full re-siding and typical costs.

Common problems

Problems We Fix Most

Panels pulled loose or unlocked

Usually wind lift or nails driven too tight. We re-hang them so they lock and still have room to move.

Cracks, holes and dents

Hail, flying debris and mower stones break brittle panels. We swap out the damaged pieces without tearing off the whole wall.

Leaks at windows and corners

Water usually gets in where trim meets the wall. We check the flashing and J-channel, not just the panel.

Soft or rotted sheathing

If the wall gives when you press it, the wood behind needs replacing before new panels go on.

Old patches that don't match

We replace mismatched pieces with the closest profile and color, placed where they show least.

Finding the cause

How We Track Down a Leak

A stain inside doesn't always sit right behind the bad spot outside, because water runs along the wrap before it shows up. We work from the top down:

  1. Check roof-to-wall joints and kick-out flashing above the damage
  2. Look at window heads, corners and anything that passes through the wall
  3. Unlock panels near the stain and look at the wrap and sheathing
  4. Fix the entry point first, then replace the panels

What you'll pay

What Does Fixing a Damaged Wall Cost?

Most repairs typically cost $700 to $3,300, and Angi puts the local average near $1,990. By material, vinyl repairs run about $2 to $7 per square foot and wood about $4 to $11.

JobTypical cost
Full vinyl re-side, about 2,000 sq ft of wall$8,000–$24,000
Siding repairs, all materials$700–$3,300
Vinyl repair, per sq ft$2–$7
Wood repair, per sq ft$4–$11

Typical ranges, not our quotes. Sources: HomeAdvisor (vinyl re-side) and Angi local repair data.

The price goes up when sheathing has to be replaced, flashing needs rebuilding, the damage is high off the ground, or the profile is hard to find.

After a storm

What to Do Right After High Winds

  • Take photos of every damaged wall before anything is moved
  • Pick up loose panels so they don't blow into windows or cars
  • If it's safe, cover open spots with plastic sheeting to keep rain out
  • Look inside for new stains on walls or ceilings near the damage

Then call us. We'll look at what's open and tell you whether it's a repair or a bigger job.

Repair or replace

When Patching Stops Making Sense

A repair is the right call when damage is in one area and the rest of the walls are sound. If panels are brittle all over, buckling on several sides, or you've patched the same spots more than once, a full re-side usually costs less over time.

Questions About Fixing Damage

Can you replace one panel without removing the whole wall?

Yes. Vinyl panels unlock from each other, so we can remove the courses above a damaged spot, replace it, and lock everything back.

Can you match my color exactly?

Not always. Sun fades panels and manufacturers retire colors, so we bring the closest match and suggest where a small difference will be least visible.

How do I know if water got behind my siding?

Look for soft spots, peeling paint or stains on inside walls, and musty smells near outside walls. Any of those means the wall needs opening, not just a new panel.

Does a repair need a permit?

Small panel swaps often don't, but larger repairs may need a Residential Repair Permit from the City. We'll check before work starts.

Do you fix wood siding too?

Yes. Wood repairs typically run $4 to $11 per square foot, and we match board profiles as closely as the material allows.

Do you work in Houston?

Yes. Call (832) 924-6020 and tell us where the damage is.
